SDE Reports Database

It allows departments to update information like Student Achievements, Academic Developments, Events Organized, Collaborations, etc. This database can be used to generate Annual Reports, President Quarterly Report, etc.

Online BOE System

It allows departments to view BOE Mark List electronically. The departments can use this system during their departmental BOE meetings.

Student Profile System

It allows staff members to view student's progression, graduation requirements, personal data, achievements, ranking, etc.

SDE Research Query

This system allows users to check new applications for admission to Higher Degrees by Research. It also allows administrators to view SDE Research Projects and profile of research students.

Digital Information System

Currently, SDE's in-house materials such as dissertation, event photos, newsletter and video tapes are only available in Information Resource Centre. These materials are often only available during office hours and in limited quantity. Due to heavy usage and passage of time, the materials may also deteriorate over time.

With the Digital Information System, these materials will be digitized and made available on the web. This will increase the readership due to simultaneous and round -the-clock accessibility by readers. There will also be backup of the original copy in digital format.

As part of the system, a kiosk is set up for directional maps to aid internal staff and public in locating personnel within the School as well as events' venue.

Academic Research Repository

This system enables staff members to self-archive their working or research papers and distribute them within and outside NUS research community. This promotes sharing of information and boosts research collaboration.

Student Tracking System

This system provides easy access to selected work of students and staff members. It comprises mainly images and text information on studio works and data provided by the students and staff on CD-ROM. It allows search through keywords and receiving previews of images such as submission posters, 3D CAD data and other file formats.

Digital Archiving

This system enables academic administrators to track students' progression and students to self-track their course and graduation requirements in different cohorts.

Helpdesk Expert Automation Tools (HEAT)

HEAT is a call logging system where support team will log issues and their details, assign responsibility for resolving the issues. It provides functions such as tracking the history of users' hardware and software problems, and hardware configuration. A supportive FAQs is built to complement that of Computer Centre. Also, it facilitates the collection of statistics for decision making.

Web Content Management System

The system empowers the staff members to publish content on the web easily without going through the webmaster. It controls the flow of content to ensure complete authorization and testing before publishing. Content is kept up-to-date and accurate.

Outsourcing of SDE Printing Facilities

The School has several printing facilities manned by the staff. However, these facilities offer different and sometimes duplicate printing services such as A0-A4 size, photocopying at different locations, with different kinds of payment methods. To curb this inefficient flow of printing process, the management decided to revamp the printing system by outsourcing to external vendors.

The chosen vendor provided the School with a one-stop self-service cashcard solutions and manpower, which results in lower cost and added convenience for the students. The Technical Support staff is also freed up for more value-added tasks.

Consolidation of Servers

Previously, each department has its own server, resulting in duplication of functions between servers, poor load balancing and high cost of maintenance. The purpose plan is to redistribute the School's servers in terms of functionality rather ownership. The servers are divided into a) School and Department Web Server, b) Students servers, c) Database Servers and d) Applications Servers. This maximizes the utilization and standardizes the operation procedures. It also improves on the security control and monitoring of the servers.

SDE Academic Staff Workload Accounting System

Every semester, the School of Design and Environment has to go through the exercise of computing the workload of their academic staff. The system helps to streamline the process by setting up the framework for the computation of workload and the actual computation of total hours of staff input in areas of teaching, research and administration. It helps to give an overall picture of the staffing capacity of the departments in the School.

Postgraduate Module Registration System

This system enables postgraduate students to register modules on the web. To enhance the availability and scalability of the system, it is implemented using JSP/Servlet.
